I'm an associate professor of Rhetoric and Writing at York College of Pennsylvania, specializing in rhetoric, religion, and writing. I also direct York College's Center for Faculty Excellence and serve as a co-editor of Young Scholars in Writing, a peer-reviewed journal that publishes undergraduate research in rhetoric and writing studies.
I love teaching rhetoric and writing. I teach a variety of courses, but in each class my goal is to empower students to make effective and ethical interventions in issues they care about. I pose authentic problems for students to solve through their speaking and writing, invite students to select audiences and genres appropriate for their own goals, and create opportunities to deliver their work to real audiences.
My scholarly interests have long been centered on American evangelicals' rhetorical practices and how those practices are shaped by their educational experiences. Beyond religious rhetorics, I am increasingly interested in "high impact practices" for undergraduate education, including undergraduate research, and the accessibility and inclusiveness of these practices for neurodivergent students.
